I know most of the people are asking the same question – Why do you charge so much if you are just pressing the camera button??
Well, the truth is that we charge that much because we have invested and we continue investing much in our business.
We invest in our education – I am constantly paying for and attending workshops by the bigger photographers out there. These workshops are very expensive! We buy gear, we buy software, we buy heaps of props (very expensive), some of us rent a studio, we pay bills, we pay for websites and marketing, we pay for insurance, we pay for accounting and bookkeeping, marketing and advertising and lots of other things!
I am disappointed when people often chose their photographer only by the price. When I check my google analytics I see that the first page people go to is “pricing”. Is this really the most important thing? Of course, if you are on a budget, the price is important. However, you should think about the quality of the photos and the style of the photographer. When you hire a newborn or maternity photographer you should check his/her photography portfolio! These photos are meant to be with you and your family for generations. I still have photos of my grand grand parents and I cherish them very much, but with the digital generation people only keep their photos on their computer, share them in the social media and think since everybody can buy a DSLR camera, photos should be very cheap…it’s only a digital file, right? Why should it cost so much? Well it costs that much because I have invested in all the things listed above, my time and my style.
Here is a nice explanation by a fellow photographer:
