How to Prepare Your Skin Before a Photoshoot

How to Prep Your Skin Before a Photoshoot

How to Prep Your Skin Before a Photoshoot

Professional photography sessions require preparation for them to be successful. Photography sessions for newborn and little kids may take shorter preparation time given that the subjects’ skin doesn’t really need that much or any priming at all. But if you’re an adult and you want to look your best during your photoshoot, prepping your skin is an absolute must.

Whether it’s your first time to do a photoshoot, or you’re already a pro, it doesn’t hurt to start with the basics when prepping your skin. Fresh, dewy, radiant glowing skin is the best canvass for professional makeup that will accentuate your best features and make you look your best during your photo shoot. While there already have been a lot of breakthroughs in photo post-processing and skin imperfections can be erased with a click of a mouse, nothing replaces the radiance and captivating effect of flawless skin on a subject.

Are you ready? Read on below for some tips and let’s get started!

  • Get into the right skincare routine

As you probably heard before, amazing skin does not happen in a flash. It is not something you wish for before you go to bed at night and find it happening for you the next morning, it simply doesn’t happen like that. Like most nice and worthwhile things in life, you have to work for it, put in the effort, do the research and commit to it. How do you start? You start by getting into the right skincare routine. In the multitude of skincare brands available in the market, how would you know which one works best for you? Simple, by doing your research. Check with your trusted skin care expert what type of skin you have. From there, you can start researching which available skincare products and their ingredients work best for you. While it may be a series of hit and miss or mix and match, as long as you do your research and you listen to professional advice, you’re on the right track.

This skincare routine is a sample of what you can use as a baseline for your research, but make sure to not use products just because someone famous recommended it. Make sure that the products you use are actually compatible with your skin, to avoid skin irritations.

  • Never forget sunscreen

Some adults, especially younger ones, tend to forget to include sunscreen in their skincare regimen. The thing is, not putting on sunscreen while you are young is probably one of the biggest disservices that you can do to your skin! The harmful UV rays of the sun, while you may not see it happening, is making your skin lose its natural elasticity which leads to premature aging. Again, while this is not yet evident when you’re young, you’re going to wish you can knock some sense into your younger self when you finally see it happening.

While sunlight, in moderation, has amazing effects on your health, putting on sunscreen is a must to make sure your skin is glowing, elastic, and radiant, not just in time for your photo shoot, but also for your skin health as you age.

  • Sleep and Hydrate

These are the easiest and cheapest foolproof and surefire ways to healthy skin, but these are the most often underlooked. Before you go crazy over skincare and everything else, start with the basics – sleep and drink water! Every magazine, website, and video on getting healthy skin will tell you this, all you need to do is listen and actually do them.

  • Get professional treatments

Did you ever experience a time when you see a pimple on your cheek and you had to fight all urges not to pop it? And while looking at your pimple you notice a few blackheads here and there just practically staring at you and begging you to squeeze them out? While it is easier said than done, and you may know this already, resist the urge to do so. Leave pimple and blackhead extraction to the professionals by getting professional treatments. Not only are they trained to do these things for you, they also have the materials and equipment to use to make sure that they don’t leave a lasting mark on your face.

Once you have secured the schedule of your photoshoot, make it a point to book a time with your trusted skincare professional as well. Get some time in the calendar for some facials, exfoliation treatments, and other recommended treatments to make sure your skin is looking its most radiant during your photoshoot.

Start with these 4 ultra-easy steps, and you’re on your way to having nice, fresh, radiant skin – all prepped up for your amazing photo shoot ahead!
